Students interested in the subject may have the opportunity to take the AP Computer Science Principles course in high school, and the class is designed to teach students information equal to what would be learned in a college introductory course. Some schools will use AP exam scores for college credits or class placement, and the exam is scheduled for May towards the end of the class. Students will learn how computer programs are created and learn to create their own programs using code. This course is also designed to teach students about algorithms including what they are and how they are used. The AP Computer Science Principles Exam: What You Need to Know
The exam for AP Computer Science Principles consists of two sections, one of which needs to be completed during class. The test taken on exam day lasts for 2 hours and requires a student to answer 70 multiple-choice questions and accounts for 70% of the exam score. Students must also complete a task to assess a student’s practical knowledge which will require at least 12 hours of class time and account for 30% of the exam score.
