Benefits of an Online Algebra Tutor

Online algebra tutors help students learn in a way that is more accessible and comfortable to them. Traditional in-person tutoring can come with the hassle of choosing a time and place to meet that is comfortable, quiet, and works for everyone. The pool of tutors to choose from is also considerably smaller when searching locally. With online tutoring, students can learn from the comfort of home or another location where they are given the space to focus. There’s no worry over a commute or busy schedule because online learning is flexible and customizable to each student. Additionally, students have more choices when looking for a tutor online, meaning there’s a higher chance they will find someone they click with. If you need online algebra help, consider using a tutoring service like Enhanced Prep.

What is Algebra?

Algebra is a branch of mathematics that involves solving equations that have fixed numbers and variables. For example, a fixed number could be the numbers 10 and 7, and a variable could be the letter x. An equation could be 10 – x = 7. So, algebra is essentially the process of solving the equation to find out what number x could be. Each state sets its own mathematics learning standards, but students generally start learning basic algebra in middle school. As students progress in their education, algebra can get very complicated, which is why Enhanced Prep’s algebra tutors create a unique game plan to help them succeed.

Algebra Help for Common Courses

Students are typically introduced to simple algebraic thinking and equations in middle school, usually 7th or 8th grade. The algebra they learn here acts as building blocks for more advanced courses in the future. In high school, they will likely take at least one algebra class and use algebraic concepts in other math classes to prepare them for college entrance exams and college-level learning. Once students enter college, they may take one or two algebra courses as part of general education requirements. Enhanced Prep’s team of professional online algebra tutors can help students achieve their goals no matter where they are in their algebra journey.

Pre-Algebra

Students in pre-algebra courses are introduced to basic algebra concepts in order to prepare them for advanced learning in the future. A few topics they will likely come across include numbers and operations, formulas and equations, integers, number theory, and order of operations. Students may also keep track of different formulas on formula sheets and use calculators.

Algebra I

Algebra I courses are typically introduced to students in high school in 9th or 10th grade. These courses build upon what was learned in pre-algebra, with more complex topics and equations. Students may learn topics such as quadratic equations, polynomic equations, quadratic functions, polynomial expressions, data analysis and probability, and interpreting radical functions, as well as graphing them.

Algebra II

Once again, Algebra II courses build upon previously learned skills and topics. Students still work on solving complex linear and quadratic equations, as well as using graphing calculators to graph the results of their equations. New topics introduced include trigonometry, more advanced polynomial functions, as well as logarithmic functions, and exponential functions.

College Algebra

College algebra courses are very similar to algebra II courses and cover many of the same topics. Simplifying complex rational expressions, solving quadratic, linear, and polynomial equations, and graphing parabolas and lines are just some of the tasks students may learn how to do.

Online Algebra Tutors for Test Prep

Algebra concepts appear on several important college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT. Students who wish to attend college will most likely need to take at least one of these exams. Our online algebra tutors can give students the tools they need to refresh their algebra skills and learn helpful test-taking strategies in order to pass one of these exams. Studying and taking practice tests with an Enhanced Prep algebra tutor can prepare you to get the score you need.

American College Testing (ACT)

The ACT is a national examination used to demonstrate readiness for college-level academia. The mathematics portion of the test includes algebraic concepts students should know, including finding solutions to equation systems, graphing, solving, and modeling equations, and applying algebraic thinking to real-world applications.

SAT

The SAT is another national examination where students can demonstrate their college readiness to admissions boards. The math portion of the SAT has a section titled ‘Heart of Algebra’, where students must work with linear expressions, equations, and inequalities to either solve, create, or interpret them; they must also do this with linear equation systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an algebra tutor do?

Algebra tutors offer customized instruction to students who may be struggling with algebra or just need some help with an algebra test, homework, or a reliable study plan. Tutors and their students can meet online, making for a comfortable environment and flexible learning schedule. Enhanced Prep’s professional tutors focus on the student’s most immediate needs, whether it’s test scores, grades, or the college application process, to help them achieve their goals as best as they can.

How do I choose an algebra tutor?

Choosing an algebra tutor can be a tricky process; depending on your needs, you may want to look for a tutor who is available online or in person, who has extensive knowledge and skills in a specific area (such as test prep), and who clicks with your student. This is why Enhanced Prep focuses on serving both customers; students and their parents. By keeping constant and consistent communication between the student, parents, and tutor, we ensure that everyone is satisfied and invested in the student’s success.

Can an algebra tutor help me pass my class?

Passing a class involves doing well in many components, such as studying regularly, completing assignments, and getting good grades on tests and quizzes. Enhanced Prep understands that each student has their own strengths and weaknesses and will work to identify them so they can focus on the content they need. For example, a student who does well on homework assignments but has trouble on tests would work with our tutors to develop test-taking strategies to give them confidence in their abilities.

How can an algebra tutor help me study for a test?

Enhanced Prep’s algebra tutors follow a three-pillar approach to helping students succeed. One of these pillars is determining what strategies will work best for students to maximize their chances of passing the test with scores high enough to get into their dream school. Our tutors understand that no two students are the same and that different strategies work for different people. We apply this philosophy when working with students, valuing their input and taking it into account when creating strategies.

Can a tutor help me with my algebra homework?

Solving complex equations, using graphing calculators, and understanding how different algebraic formulas work are just a few of the concepts found in algebra homework. This is why Enhanced Prep is there if a student needs algebra homework help. Working with an algebra tutor can help students retain important algebra information that can make doing their homework a less stressful process, whether it’s remembering certain formulas or coming up with new ways to work out problems.
