What is Algebra?

Algebra is a branch of mathematics that involves solving equations that have fixed numbers and variables. For example, a fixed number could be the numbers 10 and 7, and a variable could be the letter x. An equation could be 10 – x = 7. So, algebra is essentially the process of solving the equation to find out what number x could be. Each state sets its own mathematics learning standards, but students generally start learning basic algebra in middle school. Algebra Help for Common Courses

Students are typically introduced to simple algebraic thinking and equations in middle school, usually 7th or 8th grade. College Algebra

College algebra courses are very similar to algebra II courses and cover many of the same topics. Simplifying complex rational expressions, solving quadratic, linear, and polynomial equations, and graphing parabolas and lines are just some of the tasks students may learn how to do.
