At Enhanced Prep, we provide a truly customizable approach to tutoring, focusing on each student’s specific needs. We match students with the right tutor who can help them study for a biology test one day and prep for their upcoming college entrance exam the next.

“The tutoring absolutely helped my student focus, learn & pratice the skills and knowledge he needed to greatly improve his ACT score. He was also more motivated to work with his tutor than he was with self paced course he tried before.”
Alexis

“After only a few weeks of meetings, I knew that everthing was changing – not just the grades that I was seeing on assignments, but the attitude that I brought to each period. I took the AP Calculus AB Exam and scored a 5!”
John
Parent
“We tried improving our son’s scores with a local prep company recommended by his school… their focus was on repetitive testing in a group environment. After just 10 sessions with Enhanced Prep he scored a 35 on his ACT and just completed his interview for Harvard.”

The PSAT Exams
Students in grades 8-10 can take one or more PSAT exams to gauge their knowledge and skills for college and career readiness, prepare to take the SAT, or qualify for academic merit scholarships such as the National Merit Scholarship. Students will take a certain exam depending on where they are at in their education; for example, students in grades 8 and 9 would take the PSAT 8/9, while students in grade 10 would take the PSAT 10 or PSAT/NMSQT. All PSAT exams have Math, Reading & Writing and Language sections, with the content of each exam being very similar. Candidates are tested on topics such as algebra, problem-solving, data analysis, reading comprehension, and writing. Students who don’t know what exams to take should consider getting help from a PSAT tutor at Enhanced Prep. We pair all students with the right tutor to help with test scores, academic areas of focus and scholarship applications, all the way to college applications.
Frequently Asked Questions
How should I prepare for the PSAT?
The first step to preparing for a PSAT exam is to remember that it is just for practice; the scores can be used for scholarships, but a less-than-desirable score does not mean you can’t still do well on the SAT or qualify for scholarships. Studying the content that will be on the exam and taking at least a few practice tests is a good idea. Learning helpful test-taking strategies can also help prepare you to stay focused and confident on test day. Finding out the areas you need help in and sticking to a study plan can be difficult, so it is wise to seek the help of a PSAT tutor. Enhanced Prep’s tutors create a unique game plan for each student, so you can be sure that you’re getting the PSAT help you need in time for test day.
Is the PSAT hard?
The structure and content of the PSAT exams is similar to the SAT but students should be familiar with the content presented (this includes students taking the PSAT 8/9 exam, which is structured the same as the regular PSAT but tests students at academic levels they’re familiar with). Topics such as data analysis, problem-solving, algebra, advanced math, reading analysis and comprehension, and writing abilities are tested. However, it may have been a while since students have reviewed the content. This is why working with a tutor can be beneficial to a student’s success. Online PSAT tutors can help students identify what content areas they need the most work in, whether they just need a simple refresher on familiar topics or they need extra help with advanced work.
How many times can I retake the PSAT?
Schools decide if they want to offer PSAT exams and when. There are usually 3 test dates; 1 regular test day, 1 Saturday test day, and 1 alternate test day, but students can only choose 1 date. The PSAT/NMSQT test is typically offered in October while the PSAT 10 and PSAT 8/9 is offered during certain periods of time, such as between September and January, between February and March, or sometime in April. Students can only take the PSAT once per year, and only juniors (and occasionally some sophomores) are eligible to take the PSAT/NMSQT. Because the exam can only be taken once per year, students may want to work with PSAT tutors to make sure they’re prepared in time for test day.
Are calculators allowed on the PSAT?
Students must bring their own calculators to the PSAT exam. Scientific and graphing calculators are permitted, although only certain types. Four-function calculators are also allowed but not recommended. Students are responsible for making sure their calculators have good batteries and are in working order. They may only use them on the Math – Calculator Allowed portion of the exam. To make taking the exam easier, students should bring a calculator they are familiar with, preferably the one they have been studying or practicing with.
What is a passing score on the PSAT?
The PSAT exams are used for practice for the SAT exams, so they have a similar scoring scale. Scores on the PSAT range from 320 to 1520. The higher the score a student achieves, the more likely they’re ready for college and the better chances they’ll have at passing the SAT and qualifying for scholarships. Because the PSAT is scored this way and used for a variety of purposes, there is no pass/fail structure. Students should aim to achieve a score that will help them reach their goals.
